The season of Lent is a time of great introspection and reflection. The ashes we received on Ash Wednesday prompt us to think about the kind of “mark” that we want to leave on the world. Typically, we often think of Lent as a time of sacrifice and while that is true, it is also a time of generosity and looking outward towards the community and looking for ways in which to help those less fortunate.
The St. Brother Andre community will be embarking on three main charitable endeavours:
- During the week of March 27th, all high schools in the York Catholic District school board are combining efforts to collect a variety of items for hygiene kits that will be donated to ShareLife for distribution amongst the homeless of Toronto. Our school has been asked to collect face cloths. We ask that each student contribute 1 or 2 as the school goal is 2000.
- During the week of April 3rd, the Luke 4:18 Council will be leading the way in our school’s support of 5 With D.R.I.V.E., a Markham-based organization, who is looking for support for their food bank and their efforts to end the trafficking of young girls and women. Students are asked to bring in either a Loonie or Toonie, along with a non-perishable food item.
- On May 4th, the school will continue the tradition in supporting the B-Strong Foundation in its efforts and cancer research. Students will receive more information shortly about collecting pledges. The entire school will go on a 5km walk in support of this foundation, in loving memory of Lindsay Bulger (a former student), as well as the Children’s Wish Foundation.
Your support and generosity is greatly appreciated!
