Cardinal Team Takes the Bowl

It seemed as if all the stars were aligned on the night of October 6th, 2016. The weather was incredible, the fans, staff, parents and SBA alumni all were present, and the atmosphere … well there’s nothing quite like the atmosphere at a high school football game. The fans, the live band , raw athletic talent and nostalgic treats from the concession stand are just a few of the reasons why large crowds pack into the SBA Field every year for the annual MARKHAM BOWL.

The SBA Cardinals football team would do their best to deliver the remaining aspect of such an epic night. VICTORY!  As the game ensued it was evident that one individual took this feat very seriously on the turf that evening. Talik Ehouman #4 of the SBA Cardinals was a one man wrecking team. On defense stripping passes from the bare hands of the Markham receivers,  to the five rushing touch downs, amounting a total of more than 185 yards on offence, Talik was hands down the player of the game.

SBA fielded a very young team made up of more than 75% junior athletes (grade 9 and 10) playing in their first ever varsity program.  Our senior teir 1 Division had their share of mishaps in the past but brought their experience and determination to round out what has become a powerhouse 2016 team.  The longer you play the game and the more knowledge you generate, the better you become. SBA emerged victorious romping the Markham Marauders 33-18. Matthew Dyer, John Kitsos, Hakeem Harris, Ty Doyle, Nicholas Mongillo, Owen Francis, William D’Alessandro-Kroupa and Joseph Metauro are just a small few of the young Cardinals that are leaving their mark on YRAA football this season.

Thank you to all who attended, and all those involved behind the scenes, for making the night such a special night for our football program. We look forward to seeing you all again at next year’s Markham Bowl, where we have some new and fun festivities in the works.

Thanks to our coaches:  Mr. Garel, Mr. Colangelo, Mr. Mihaljevic, and Mr. Weir as well as former SBA student, Jesseka Melanie, for the amazing photographs in this article.  Check out:  Special thanks to our Athletic Council and Parent Volunteers working behind the scenes to make the evening all that more amazing!
