Fashion Students Take On Colour Me Mine
This past Tuesday, Mrs. Attenborough-Deakin’s grade 12 fashion class had a fun filled day at Colour Me Mine where they painted ceramics. Some students kept their creations for themselves as some personalized their ceramic mugs with their initials or favourite Disney characters. Others opted to give a homemade Christmas mug this year. Snowflakes, candy canes, reds and greens were evidently used in some of the students’ ceramics to make for a definite holly jolly Christmas gift.
The students found it interesting how the chalky paint used, will turn out glossy after being heated up in an extremely hot oven allowing the colours to really pop. The Colour Me Mine trip was an absolute hit and everyone cannot wait to see their final masterpiece glazed to perfection.
Just recently, this class completed a unit on window displays and how effective these displays can be to attract consumers. They even made their own window displays in class that showcased the major elements of fashion, noteworthy designers, as well as fashion history, to name a few.
After painting their ceramic mug or plate at Colour Me Mine, they had the chance to roam around Markham Main Street to critique the window displays of small boutiques. Some were decked out to match the upcoming Halloween festivities, while others displayed an array of extravagant dresses. Why not stop by Starbucks along the way? Some even brought their cup cozies they knitted from last year to decorate their Pumpkin Spice lattes even further.
The fashion students had a blast painting and roaming around Main Street. It was relaxing and definitely gave the students a break from their busy sewing schedules!
